Native USDC & CCTP are Now Live on X Layer

X Layer, OKX's EVM-compatible Layer-2 blockchain, now supports native USDC, issued by regulated affiliates of Circle, one of the world's most trusted regulated stablecoins. Alongside native USDC, Circle's Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) is also live on X Layer, enabling secure, native USDC transfers between X Layer and other supported chains.

What's changing

Until now, the USDC available on X Layer were bridged versions (USDC.e & USDC_Bridged) derived from Ethereum. While functional, USDC.e & USDC_Bridged were not directly redeemable through Circle. It also wasn’t compatible with Circle's cross-chain infrastructure or the growing ecosystem of DeFi protocols and institutional tools that require native USDC.

Starting 7 August 2026, X Layer joins the list of native USDC-supported chains. Native USDC on X Layer is:

  • Fully reserved — 100% backed by highly liquid cash and cash-equivalent assets

  • 1:1 redeemable — exchangeable for USD directly through Circle Mint

  • MiCA-compliant — meets EU stablecoin regulatory requirements

  • Composable — compatible with major DeFi protocols

How it works for OKX users

For OKX exchange users, deposits and withdrawals via the X Layer network now settle in native USDC automatically. There's no change to your existing experience.

Existing USDC.e & USDC_Bridged will remain clearly labeled as such across block explorers, app interfaces, and documentation. The X Layer ecosystem will migrate USDC.e & USDC_Bridged liquidity to native USDC over time as protocols update their pools.

What is CCTP?

Circle Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) is now live on X Layer. CCTP lets you move native USDC between X Layer and the other 25 CCTP-supported chains — without using a third-party bridge. Here's how it works:

  1. Native USDC is burned on the source chain

  2. Circle CCTP issues a cryptographic attestation

  3. Native USDC is minted on the destination chain

The result: seamless, fully native USDC on every hop. No wrapped tokens, no bridge counterparty risk.

For developers and builders

Developers building on X Layer now have access to the largest regulated stablecoin for their applications. Native USDC enables:

  • DeFi liquidity — compatible with protocols that require USDC

  • Institutional settlement — Circle Mint enables qualified businesses to issue and redeem USDC directly on X Layer

  • AI-native payments — Agent Payments Protocol (APP) flows for AI-driven applications on X Layer

  • Cross-chain apps — build with CCTP to move USDC across chains natively
